Prof Vladimir G. Chigrinov is Professor of Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering and one of the leaders of PSKL HKUST Lab. He obtained his PhD Dr. Sc from Shubnikov’s Institute of Crystallography, Russian Academy of Sciences. Professor Chigrinov’s research focuses on Green power saving liquid crystal display and photonic devices. Prof Chigrinov authored 4 books, 17 reviews and book chapters, 218 journal papers, 495 Conference presentations and 78 patents and patent applications in the field of liquid crystals and displays since 1974. His paper on Japanese Journal of Applied Physics (JJAP) in 1992 is the 4th most heavily-cited and have been an influential paper published in JJAP since the first volume in 1962. Prof Chigrinov is SID Fellow since 02.08. He is the only SID Fellow in Russia and Eastern Europe. He won the Research Excellence Award of SENG, HKUST, that recognizes the efforts of an outstanding faculty member in May 2012. Prof Chigrinov served as Associate Editor of J. SID, Member of Editorial Board of three other International journals, Chair of three International Conferences in 2010, 2012 and 2014, and has attended more than 50 plenary, invited and tutorial talks in about 100 prestige International Conferences since 1974.
