Prof Tianshou Zhao, Director of HKUST Energy Institute, awarded major prize in science and technology

Director of HKUST Energy Institute Prof Tianshou Zhao, Cheong Ying Chan Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, has been awarded the Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Ho Leung Ho Lee (HLHL) Foundation. The award was in honor of his outstanding achievements in research and technological innovation with a commitment to creating clean energy production and storage devices for a sustainable future and his seminal contributions in the areas of fuel cells, advanced batteries, multi-scale multiphase heat and mass transport with electrochemical reactions, and computational modeling.

The 2018 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation award ceremony and conference was held on 6 Nov in Beijing. There are a total of 56 Chinese Scientists received the honor, among over 700 nominations. 

The HLHL Foundation was set up in 1994 by four well-known Hong Kong philanthropists, namely Dr S H Ho, Dr Leung Kau-kui, Dr Ho Tim and Dr Lee Quo-wei, who donated HK$100 million each. It aims to promote the development of science and technology on the mainland by awarding outstanding scientists. The HLHL Foundation Prizes are currently the most significant and influential award in mainland China.
